While at work I heard a commotion outside so I went to take a look.
Initially, I thought that the group of children were just messing about as I had witnessed many times before with other groups of kids walking to and from school.
I soon realised that this was not the case.
There was a group of 6 school children harassing a younger pupil from the same school. It was initially just shouting, but it soon turned physical.
I then had to get involved when I saw him being attacked with a branch, and a house brick!!!
I managed to keep the group occupied long enough to allow the boy to escape.
I later found out that the boy was taunted all the way through the town centre. Another member of the public had attempted to help, but the group ran off only to then catch up with him near my workplace.
If he had known of a safe place to go in the town centre, then this whole incident could have been easily avoided.
This is why I have set up this website, to give lists of safe places for children who are being bullied outside of school hours to give them time to either call a parent, or to simply wait it out to see if the bullys will go away.
The aim is simple - to get as many local businesses to sign up and display the "S" sticker in their window so that a child in trouble knows that the staff are there to offer refuge or assistance.
